Bogotá's reputation as a street art hub is partly due to the recent decriminalization of graffiti. This change followed the tragic death of a young artist, 16-year-old Diego Felipe Becerra who was killed by police for spray painting his signature Felix the Cat on a public wall. Protests ensued, legislation was passed, and the city embraced street art. Today, local artists use their art as a form of protest and to advocate for social change.
