When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.

- Malala Yousafzai

Hi!

I’m Armaan Sharma, and I have a passion for advancing social justice and equity through advocacy and community engagement. I am dedicated to preventing intergenerational forms of violence through various community-based organizations that emphasize intersectional approaches.

Activism runs in my family. From empowering women co-operatives in the foothills of the Himalayas to volunteering at the local domestic violence shelter in Fremont, California, my parents and extended family demonstrated the power of collective action. I grew up in this immigrant community where using your voice to create change was as natural as breathing.

Yet, as a queer Indian-American boy in Fremont, I often felt silenced and isolated; heterosexuality was the expected norm in the Indian diaspora, and I did not feel I had the space to voice my identity. It was through Team STYT that I discovered the concept of intersectionality, realizing that my experiences were shaped by the interplay of my various identities.

Understanding how different forms of oppression are interconnected has deepened my commitment to creating a more just and equitable society. I believe that by addressing these intersecting challenges, we can build stronger, more inclusive communities—where everyone is seen, heard, and empowered to drive meaningful change.
